Updating Your Garage Door Quickly and Easily

When it comes to making your home look like a million dollars, it is all in the details. When I went to list my home for sale a few years back, I realized that many of the other comparable listings had loads of details that my home was lacking. I wanted to make things right, so I started focusing on small things like repainting the walls and updating my garage door. After making the changes and re-listing my property, the house sold in under a week. I wanted to create a blog all about updating your space. Check it out!

The 3 Primary Types Of Garage Door Drive Systems

When you decide to replace your garage door with a new one, one of the choices that you are going to need to make is what type of drive system you want installed with your new garage door. There are currently three primary types of drive systems available on the market today.

#1 Chain Systems

The first type of drive system, and the most popular, are chain driven door systems. These types of door drive systems use chains that are usually attached on either side of the garage door or are attached to the middle of the garage door. The chains are moved via a motor that pulls them up and down. These are very reliable systems and are found in many homes.

The biggest downside to a chain garage door drive system is that it is not that quiet. It can make a fair amount of noise, and may not be the best system if you live really close to your neighbors or in duplex or townhouse, as you are most likely going to hear the garage door open and close.

#2 Screw System

A screw drive system for your garage door actually uses a steal rod to drive the operation of your garage door. Steel rods are used to roll your garage door up and down. One of the biggest advantages of a steel rod driven or screw system is that it doesn't make a lot of noise. It is great for homeowners that live in townhouses, duplex and neighborhoods that are close together. Another big advantage to a screw system is that it is really easy to take care of; all you need to do is put a little lubricant on it once a year or so, and it should continue to work just fine.

#3 Computer System

Finally, you can install a garage door drive system that is driven by a computer. Computer driven systems are newer and usually work in conjunction with another type of system, such as a screw or chain driven system. Computer systems are usually very small and very quiet, which is great for small garage that don't have a lot of space in them and where noise is a concern. This is about as quiet a system as you can get. This type of system is located above your garage door and doesn't take up a lot of room.

When deciding what garage door drive train system to use, take into consideration the amount of space you have in your garage as well as how much noise you want your garage door to make.
